This Week in 4B....

I heard lots of students had a wonderful time at Olivette on the Go :)   Here's what we are up to this week...

"In Math we are learning about composite numbers, prime numbers, square numbers, factors and multiples.  We are playing fun math games during math workshop like a factor maze, boggle and we get to do use ipads for ixl.  I like this unit better than the last unit."-Kourtney

"In Writing we are learning about Personal Narratives.  We finished our first personal narrative with Miss Bergin's help and this week we are writing a new one on our own.  Today someone from COCA came and taught us poetry it went well and I thought it was awesome!"  -Dylan (The fourth grade team has a COCA resident that will rotate between the classrooms throughout the year.  4B and 4P  start off the residency every monday for 7 weeks.  We are very excited to implement art and movement into our poetry curriculum!)

"In Reading we are doing imovie book trailers of a chapter book we read for our 30 book challenge.  We are also learning about non-fiction books and text features." -Clayton

"In Science we are learning about ecosystems.   We have learned about population, communities, organisms and how animals adapt to survive.  We learned about the prairie, forest and pond ecosystems."  -Maddie

Have a wonderful week and please see below a note from out PTO!

Dear Fourth Grade Parents,

The PTO’s annual adult fundraiser is fast approaching on Saturday, October 18, 2014.  To ensure the continued success of this event, we need your help.  Each class will be assigned a theme and families can send in donations to fit their assigned theme.  No item is too big or small.  Once all the items are collected and assembled, the results are fabulous baskets that are raffled off the night of the event.  This is a perfect example of how we can all do something small that has big results for our children!

The Fourth Grade parents are asked to make donations for a Caffeine Crazy basket.  This can include coffee, chocolate, tea, cups, gift certificates, etc.  Anything that seems perfect for the person who loves a caffeine buzz is appropriate and welcome.

For all grades we are asking that parents donate liquor or wine for our barrel of booze raffle.  No liquor is allowed on school grounds, therefore please drop off all alcohol donations at Michelle and Scott Tarlo’s home at 19 Stoneyside Lane (within walking distance of the school).  Donations can be left on their front porch.

In addition we are actively seeking gift certificates, use of vacation homes, tickets to theater or sporting events, golf rounds, in-home parties, etc.  Parents can fill out the attached form and return it to the PTO mailbox in the office.

We would appreciate receiving all contributions by Friday, September 19, 2014.

If anyone would like to volunteer to help out with this event or if they have questions, please contact Amy Doughty,
