This Week in 4B...

Mark your Calendars!
We have a lot of fun end of the year events!

April 12th    Open House (Famous Missourian Speeches)
April 18th    Map Testing Week
May 3rd      Jefferson City Field Trip
May 16th    4th Grade Day of Fun!
May 19th    4th Grade Celebration Ceremony (9:20-10:30)

-Our Measurement Unit can be challenging since we are working on both metric and customary units for measuring length, capacity and weight.  I have encouraged students to take a look at containers/food items to see that measurement is everywhere! As always, extra practice is available on ixl, your child knows their login information.  :)

-We are beginning a poetry unit and learning how to grow our ideas as we read all different types of text.  Encourage your child to use sticky notes at home to jot down their thoughts, ask questions and record new interesting vocabulary words.

-Writing and researching about our Famous Missourians has been a fun way to practice informational writing.  Help you child brainstorm a few areas they may be an "expert" to write their next practice piece.

-In Social Studies we are finishing up Lewis & Clark's adventures then we will build our covered wagons next week and head west.

*Our speeches will still be given at Open House, April 12th as a Wax Museum format.  I will send out a sign up sheet soon to schedule speech times for when your child needs to be "in the museum."

-Our next unit in Science will begin next week with Mrs. Hadfield learning all about the Scientific Method.

Happy Monday!

Yearbook Information

We would like all fourth graders to have their own yearbook since it is their last year at Reed. RSA sponsors yearbooks for families in need.  We don't want any student to miss out on the yearbook for financial reasons.  To ensure student and family privacy, please contact Reed Counselor Susan Gartenberg (sgartenberg@ladueschools.net), who will handle your request.

This week in 4B...

Happy First Day of March!

Math:
"We are learning how to add, subtract and multiply fractions.  Everyone did really good on our last decimals test, I think we are all going to do good on our fraction test too." -Jack A.

Writing:
"We are finding information for our Famous Missourians and we are going to write a speech later.  At open house we are going to say our speeches in a wax museum and I am very excited.  We are also writing articles about our field trip to the food bank and we're going to put them together into a newspaper since our writing unit right now is informational." -Jack B.

Reading:
"We are working on reading informational books to help us with our informational writing. There are cooking books and animal books that are good." -Shea

Social Studies:
"We are reading the Who Was Lewis & Clark book.  We have learned about where they were born and all about the early part of their expedition.  We also got to research Famous Missourians on Miss Bergin's websites link and I think it is amazing that so many people are from Missouri like Walt Disney, Josephine Baker, George Washington Carver, and lots of people I never heard of!" -Ceci

Science:
"With Mrs. Grasser we are learning about the skeletal system.  My favorite part was learning about how the muscles work and move together."  -Rosalie
